First a new downpipe, then wash and polish, and finally a milestone

Yes, there's a CEL. It's because I removed a catalytic converter. I need to borrow a laptop to disable it, I should have cleared it before I took the picture.

Have some clean while it lasts pictures. I need to find some better places for pictures here

Is that city MPG? Also, do you think removing the cat will help the gas mileage?

That's a mix of city and highway. I average 28-30 regardless.

I don't know what it'll do to mileage. Probably help slightly offset by my lead foot because it sounds so good

Removing a cat definitely helps MPG (unless there's some weird exhaust pressure thing going on, but not likely if it isn't a catback design) but not by more than you could improve with driving style. The improvements are probably mostly at the higher end of the rev range though, like highway cruising.

I kinda regret not trying harder to buy a Sonic LTZ sedan. (had a deposit on one.)

Ended up with a turbo Cobalt so I'm not disappointed. But the lower monthly payments and fuel mileage would be so nice for my school commute. With old lady driving and mostly highway miles I get 33ish mpg. (tires are over-sized so trip counter reads slow.)

The 1.4 with 6 speed was actually pretty fun to boot from light to light with.

edit - Also got a catless downpipe. My car sounds real mean now. Love the Ecotec.

That's not bad at all. Does it feel any quicker, like does the turbo spool a little quicker?

Noticeable increase in power at high rpm, and the turbo spools 100-200 rpm sooner

The 1.4t is fun stock, and a blast with some light mods.

I actually wanted a cobalt when they first came out, and they seem like they could be good fun.

Would you recommend the Sonic RS over the Fiesta ST?

Probably not.

I've driven a Fiesta ST. It's a freakishly fun little car. If I had driven one before I drove the Sonic there's a good chance I'd have gotten one.

That being said, I have some issues with the Fiesta. I'm not a huge fan of the exterior styling. The interior is nice enough, but again from a design standpoint I'm not a fan. It feels a little more cramped inside than the Sonic. The Recaro's are too tight for me, and the cloth seats are horrible. I've never been able to like Sync much.

The Sonic is a good platform. Stock it's decently fun, but a few cheap mods and it's absurd. Tune and intake, a total of ~$500 and you get gobs of torque and gratuitous amounts of turbo noise. The styling is great and the seats are really nice in the RS, and while MyLink is very simple it works really well.

So would I recommend the Sonic RS? Yes, I love mine. Would I recommend it over the Fiesta ST? Probably not. My recommendation is to drive them both.
